    speaking of hair…

Do you think this lady looks like a lesbian?  Not that there is anything wrong with that. However, I am trying to not look like a lesbian but my hair is growing out and I need a good in between cut.  I really like this cut but I’m afraid if I got it I would look like a lesbian from the 80′s.  I think my end goal cut will be this last picture.

    • Emilily 2:34 pm on December 3, 2009 Permalink

Unfortunately, I agree with you – the woman in the top three pictures looks like a lesbian with that haircut. I say unfortunately because I too like the cut, and I like her style, but the two together look very lesbian. Cool, chic lesbian, but lesbo nonetheless. I have the same dilemma, because I really like a menswear-ish clothing style, and I am going to have short (shorter) hair soon, and I am really wondering how on earth I am going to avoid looking like a lesbian. I have nothing wrong with lesbians, but I don’t want to look like one. (Same as there is nothing inherently wrong with 15-year-old boys, and I don’t want to look like one of those either, but I am afraid that I will at some point in the very near future look like a combination of the two.)

Yasmine’s hair is absolutely gorgeous. You are so lucky that your hair, with the right styling products, can probably look exactly like hers. That’s probably similar to the haircut I have now, but on curly hair…I’ll bet you can rock that in a few months, until then…maybe just avoid wearing collared shirts, shoulder pads, and blazers.

      Will do.
      On the other subject:
I wonder how you can spice up your soon-to-be 15 yr old boy/ Lesbian look…. Perhaps a colorful scarf? Some earrings? Or its possible that the only thing they will allow is a rosy color to the lips?

    • Emilily 3:01 pm on December 3, 2009 Permalink

I am honestly not sure. I know make-up is allowed (after basic) as long as it is not “unnatural in color” like no electric blue eyeshadow or black lipstick. Earrings…there are some restrictions as far as size…I think you’re kind of limited to studs, too. I suppose since you have to be 18 to join, the uniform won’t make me look like a 15-year-old boy, although looking like an 18-year old boy is no better. There is a version of the uniform with a skirt and heels, so…now we’re back to lesbian.

Hey, here’s a question for you – do you think Kara Thrace looks like a lesbian?

    • Carmen 3:30 pm on December 3, 2009 Permalink

      You mean this Kara???
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kara_Thrace
(how do i post a picture in the comments section?)
I have no idea if she looks like a lesbian. All I know is she’s hot and I’d do her. Ahh just kidding (i think my grandma reads this blog)! I’m not a lesbian grandma!

    • Emilily 4:23 pm on December 3, 2009 Permalink

      rad

Yeah, that Kara! And even in the earlier episodes when she had shorter hair, she didn’t really look like a lesbian to me, she just looked hot! But, I am a girl, so then by default…does that mean she does look like a lesbian? It’s all such a gray area…

      show off

    • Emilily 4:27 pm on December 3, 2009 Permalink

      ha ha.

I just go back to the last post that had a picture in the comments and copy the html and replace the image source with the new image, and the image dimensions with the new dimensions. For some reason, it doesn’t show up the first time you save the post, you have to copy the new code, save the post, go back into edit the post, paste the code back in, and the second time it shows up. Don’t know why, but it works every time.

    • Carmen 4:34 pm on December 3, 2009 Permalink

Thats alot of work. I think I’ll leave it to you to do all that. Good job.

    • Olga 3:33 am on December 4, 2009 Permalink

Splitting hairs. Not everybody is as conscious of style nuances as you two are. Or maybe it’s me that has no eye for style or gender preference coding. I think that it takes way more than a haircut to make a woman look lesbian. The shoes, clothes and mannerisms are really what set the bar for women trying to show the world that they like other women. I mean what about Halle Berry? She has had some pretty short hair and not once did I think “oh, she’s a dyke” But take your Kara for example. She does not have short hair but she could easily be taken for a lesbian. It’s all in the way you carry yourself and act. Not in the cut of your hair. That’s my opinion anyway. So there.

Oh logical reasoning, why do you vex me so???

      whoa whoa wo what
you just spent all this time getting your hair au natural! what happened?

    • Carmen 1:52 pm on December 3, 2009 Permalink

And get it done at a salon for goodness sakes!

    • Emilily 1:59 pm on December 3, 2009 Permalink

I know, but now I’m bored with it, and anyways, when it is 1″ long, it won’t be hard to get it back to my natural color. And why pay for salon color when I pay for my cut in beer?

    • Carmen 2:05 pm on December 3, 2009 Permalink

Alright go for it. It always looked good blonde! Post a pic afterwards.

    constructive criticism

Alternate post title: Why everyone needs an ex-boyfriend

Emily: So I’m experimenting with this new ‘do and testing the lower limits of hair maintenance.
Dylan: Huh, is that what happened?
Emily: Yes. I towel-dried it for about 5 seconds before I left the house this morning. This is the absolute minimum amount of effort one could put into their hair. I’m not sure if it is working for me.
Dylan: [long pause] I think the key is to make it look intentional. You don’t want it to look like you passed out on your face and someone shaved the back of your head.

lucky me – my boyfriend (not an ex) says that kind of thing to me all the time!

Yeah! Thats cute! and you don’t look goofy when you smile!

    • Briana 9:26 am on September 22, 2009 Permalink

Does the haircut really make the smile??

    • Carmen 9:47 am on September 22, 2009 Permalink

Well, i was referring to an earlier post where emily was looking all melodramatic and she said it was because she looks goofy when she smiles. So, it only sounds like a backhanded compliment, when in reality its a real compliment.

    • Emilily 7:26 pm on September 22, 2009 Permalink

I did take it as a compliment, and I thought it was quite a nice thing to say. Although, if it had been a backhanded compliment, it would have been a really good one – high five!

…because “angled bob” sounds better than “reverse mullet”

…which is basically what I got! Party in the front, business in the back, baby!

I do like it, although I think I am having separation anxiety – I’ve been carrying this slightly damp ponytail around with me all afternoon…

What, your stylist doesn't use a leaf blower to get all the little hairs off your neck too?

wow. thats a pretty drastic change! no wonder you are having separation anxiety. holy crap that was alot of hair you cut off. Even though I can’t really see it from the front I have a feeling it looks really flippin awesome and I would bet money that you are going to have a lot of fun with it! So you’ll have to power through those moments when you wonder if you just made a big mistake and also those moments when people ask you “what did you do?!” Because the truth is that this is you and you are not defined by your hair, style comes from within and you can pull off any hairdo. You’ve had your hair suuuper short to reeeallly long and either way you look good. So my hat is off to you, looking forward to seeing more pics!

All I know is that I went to have a conversation with Emily’s hair and it was no where to be found. I hear its hitchhiking to some unknown location for some much needed R & R.

    Hair progression…

Well, in honor of you chopping your hair off in a day or two I thought I would post pictures of my hair growth.  This is a lame ass post i know, like who cares about my hair growing!  Well, you do, that I know.  And this blog is for you, my friend, so i’ll do posts about seemingly boring topics just for you!  Ok, lets get on with it.  This first picture is me back at the end of June.  And the next picture is me tonight!

Of course I care about your hair! I am following the transition from pixie to wicked cool faux hawk to – what’s next? – as if it were the concluding scene of part one of the season finale of BSG and they have just left me with To be continued… If I weren’t, we would be the type of friends for whom a simple weekly phone call “hi, how ya been?” would suffice; but we’re not. We have a blog. We have our own domain name. We have (pause for effect) business cards.

So, from the other end of the hair spectrum…
      hair today

I was allowing myself a moment of melodrama there…contemplating the weight of the vanity that will soon be shed. And it’s really not as serious as all that, I’ve just decided I usually look goofy when I smile in pictures.

    • Emilily 1:42 pm on September 19, 2009 Permalink

Dude, I just thought of something funny. Too bad I’m not keeping my hair until Halloween, cause we could totally dress up as Samantha Ronson and Lindsay Lohan! I could wear leggings and lots of fake tanner and act like a drunken mess, and you could walk around all night with that “I’m with crazy” expression on your face and do some air-DJing on invisible turntables – it would be epic.

Oooo, this will be fun. Watching your hair grow from the 1/2 inch fuzz to the nine inch nails and all the awkward stages in between. Be brave. Be strong. Be lovely as always my baby girl.

A nice hair style for when you have been too busy/tired/lazy to wash your hair for the last few days…

This is not a fancy hairstyle by any means, but it does well to keep my hair out of my face and looks like I made at least a minimal amount of effort when the reality is, I haven’t washed my hair since last Wednesday. Now, I am by no means a dirty person, I have probably showered about 7 times since then, but when you have two feet of hair, it gets to be kind of a pain- either I spend 30 minutes blow drying it, or I spend half the day feeling like I have a mid-sized wet rodent draped over my shoulders. So, here it is, the low bun, with pins. And they hold better if your hair is not squeaky clean. So there.
